Indoor Slo-Pitch Rules & Guidelines

  1. No food or alcoholic drinks are permitted on the actual playing field. Alcoholic drinks can not go pass the fenced off upper deck. This is a good spot to have drinks and watch the games from behind the home plate area. No glass containers or breakables anywhere in the actual air dome (s). Get a take away cup from the bar. Do not bring your own alcoholic drinks into the dome.

  2. However, behind the Out-of-play side lines (dug out), the playing team (s) may have bottled water, Gatorade or other reasonable thirst quenchers to sip on during the game, but no food, including shelled nuts. All litter must be picked up, whether it is ours or not; leave nothing behind.

  3. Restaurant – Bar etiquette:

Do not change clothing or shoes in the bar. Use the Dome, restroom or change rooms for this.

Do not put ball bags or equipment on tables in the bar. These are for drinking and eating areas only. Pick an area in the bar and stack our bags there (maybe the floor near a wall to avoid tripping on these).

Do not - bring outside food or drinks into the bar area. Consume these in the ball dome or elsewhere – then join your friends in the bar. (It is easier just to buy the product from the dome's restaurant.)

  4. Fast inning change over:  From the last out to the first pitch of the new game – we have a maximum of 5 minute or less. If the Umpire calls Play Ball and teams are not ready the penalty is: strike against batting team, ball against defending team. We all have to co-operate on this. (See restrict First game entry below)

Avoid change over equipment confusion: Be suited and ready to take the field, but DO give the exiting team room & time to pickup their gear to avoid equipment mix ups. You can do this by simply waiting or entering the field in another area to set up.

Lost or found items: If you find something give it to the convener ONLY or his appointed receiver. Do not take it home. If you have lost something contact the convener.

  5. No infield warm ups allowed after the first inning.

  6. Warm up: Players shall warm-up in the designated warm-up area only. No hitting is allowed in the warm up area. Any player warming-up outside of the designated area is subject to the same conditions and penalties as “Entering the Playing Field” as defined below.

  7. No Grace. (The start time is the time to play or forfeit the game.) Be ready 20 minute ahead in case there is an early start.

  8. Time limits: No inning starts after 55 minutes with a maximum of 1 hour and 5 minutes game time limit.  All teams must exit the playing field within the 1 hour and 10 minute time limit.

  9. Outs can be made by catching the ball deflected off the roof or walls.  If the ball hits the roof, walls or equipment on the field, the ball is in play and fair or foul is determined by where it lands or is touch by a fielder. Exception, no out on rear wall deflections.**

  10. No out on Balls deflected off the Orange rear wall: Definition - The rear orange wall is treated as the fence in an outside game. Balls deflected off the rear orange (not side orange) is live and playable, but no fly out on a catch off the rear orange wall.

  11. Home Run Zone: Back wall orange: ball must hit the white wall above the orange. Home runs exceeding match are treated as a single base hit.

  12. Ties allowed during regular schedule, but must go to extra innings in the playoff.

  13. Unlimited Batting order.

  14. If a void is created in the batting order by a player removed due to an injury, go to the next batter without an out penalty.  Once an injured player has been removed from the batting order, they can not re-enter the game.

  15. If a void in the batting order is created for any reason other than an injury and no substitution is available than an automatic out will be recorded when the player is due to bat.

  16. A team may start or end a game with 7 or more players and may add late players to the bottom of the batting order at anytime during the game (the Ball  must be Dead before they shall enter Defensively). No out penalty for playing with less than 10 players.

  17. A default will be declared if a team falls below 7 players.

  18. Each player must have a signed properly filled in (readable) waiver turned in, before going on the field.

  19. No one is allowed on the field without a waiver on file.
  20. For league play, a team may borrow registered dome players (from other teams) to field a team of up to nine players.  The maximum number of players from a higher division must never exceed 2. Only registered Indoor League players can be on the field. The spirit of borrowing players is to be able to field a team in fair competition and must not be used for the purpose of winning a game.

  21. To be able to field 10 players: all players must be on that team's actual roster (this is the roster filed with the league).  If players have been borrowed that are not on the actual roster, when actual roster players arrive (making the team number 10 or greater), they can enter the game only by replacing a borrowed player. When all borrowed players have been replaced the team may field 10 players.

Penalty for having illegal players is game forfeit.

  22. A legal Dome league registered player is: a player on any participating team's roster with an accompanying signed waiver on file and is not in known financial default to team or league.

  23. Illegal players are:

  24. any player on the field not dome registered.

Or fielding 10 players with a borrowed player amongst them.

Or fielding 9 players with 3 or more players from a higher division.

Or a player or team known to be in financial league default.

  25. Keeping the roster legal
When bringing on new players to support the team, add them to your roster, have them sign a waiver and submit both the updated roster and waiver to the league.

  26.                 (It doesn't count if the league convener is not in possession of these documents.)

Keep a couple of roster photocopies & waivers with you, so you can update the league before the game. You can update your roster at anytime up until the 8th game. After this time you need to review this with the league. If updating significantly raises or lowers the skill level of your team, bring this to the league's attention for review.

  27. To be eligible for playoff games a player must have played a minimum of 25% regular season¹s games. Keep and take your game sheets to the finals as proof if challenged.

  28. Maximum TEN (10) players on the field at any time.

  29. Uniforms: matching tops mandatory (similar colour or look only).

  30. Home Team denoted by schedule. First team is the home team.

  31. Commitment Line in effect.

  32. A home plate mat will be used. The pitching arc will be 6 to 12 feet.

  33. Anticipation step allowed, after ball crosses the plate.

  34. Courtesy Runners: a maximum of seven (7).  Runner can run only once per game.

  35. Restricted field entry on the First game of the day. No one is allowed on the field, until instructed by the Dome Attendant or Manager of the day.  The dome people have to change over from soccer or golf to softball. Sometimes this requires driving a vehicle on the field to move field dividers, which are placed near where your team will sets up. If the guys are throwing the ball around, the dome people can't set up and the game is delayed. (see fast team change over)

To maximize our playing time, getting the game going and finishing less late, it is best if both teams from the first game help set up the play area. This means moving those field dividers down below the base lines and 3 deep against the wall. It goes quickly if both groups work together and it is real slow if we wait for the dome people to do it.

  36. Bats  See current list of banned bats and bat policy.  Use of a band bat will result in ejection of the player. If you have a concern show your bat to the Ump.

  37. Two team tie breaker

    a) Best win/lost record
    b) Most runs for

    c) Least runs against

    d) Head to head, if applicable

    e) coin toss
